Campus Life

At the heart of student life at Fredericksburg Academy are the strong community bonds that exist between students, faculty, and parents.  Traditional community events help maintain and enhance these bonds.  Some of the many Fredericksburg Academy traditions are the following:

Upper School Retreat: Held each September, this student-run overnight event gives students and faculty to discuss important community values.  The retreat includes presentations by all Upper School leadership groups and activities including the camp mudslide, swimming, board games, and a bonfire. 

Fall Carnival/Founders' Day: This is a wonderful October event that features class-sponsored booths, games, and family time.  The Parent-Faculty Association sponsors and organizes this community celebration.

Holiday Breakfast: Organized by the Parent-Faculty Association, this annual event for the families of FA's young students features pancakes, crafts and a visit from Santa Claus.

Falcon Fest: This is a student-organized event that brings underprivileged children to the campus to play games and socialize with Academy Middle and Upper School students.  Falcon Fest is held in the spring.

Field Day: This parent-organized event, held at the end of the school year, treats Lower School students to a day of friendly competition and outdoor fun on the Academy's activity field.

Eighth-Grade Overnight: On this overnight spring trip, eighth-grade students and faculty visit historic sites and usually take in a Major League Baseball game. The most recent trip was to Philadelphia.

The Perch: This is an annual trip off campus for students in eighth through twelfth grades.  Intended to ease eighth-graders' transition to Upper School and give the seniors an opportunity to say goodbye, this trip is looked forward to all year long. The day includes outdoor activities, including swimming and volleyball, square dancing, senior wills, and a talent show.
