Whether you hope to be a scholarship member of a Division I varsity team or you want to join a club squad, planning ahead is the key to finding the athletics that fit your needs. Here are sites to get you started.

NCAA
This site is a must for all students looking at playing at the varsity level in college. To be eligible as a varsity athlete, you must have registered with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
NAIA
The small, private colleges that are members of NAIA offer many of the same athletic options as NCAA schools.
College Sports Connection
This is a free recruiting service for athletes. Be wary of organizations that promise to find a student a sports scholarship. The only athletic divisions that give scholarships have very clear academic and ACT/SAT guidelines. Work with the college counselor to determine your eligibility and the process for registering with the NCAA.
College-Bound Student Athletes
If you are interested in working with a recruiter to help your student athlete, this site explains the ethics , benefits, and timeline of recuiting. You can also find registered recruiters in your area.
