Welome Back

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. I am excited to be back for my 9th year at The Academy. There are new books yet to be put on the shelves and more books on order. Mrs. Redding has some new ideas for service in the MSUS Library. And Ms. Nobles and I are working on a special collection for the Upper School this year!

I am reposting my welcome back blog posting from last year but updated:

The library program has some exciting opportunities in store for your child this year:

  • Our curriculum will be promoting the very best of children’s literature to your child with activities designed to help students enjoy the stories even more.
  • We will be doing our very best the get (or keep) your children “hooked on reading” by recommending specific reading materials.
  • Students will be learning research specifically suited to their developmental needs.
  • If you have an iPad or Android tablet, you or your student will be able to download e-books from the library this year.
  • We have special events being planned, including author visits and two book fairs.
  • The library catalog is now available online at and there is an app for that as well on your iPad.It's called "Destiny Quest" Please contact me for further information or if you need help setting it up.

Parents are welcome at the library and I am always looking for volunteers to help out! Please stop by the library, call me at 540-898-0020, Skype @falibrary or email me at if you ever have questions or comments. I look forward to seeing you!

What else does the library check out besides books? The library also checks out e-books, magazines, Playaways (pre-loaded MP3 player), and audiobooks on CD and tape.

How can I get more information about the FA Libraries? Please visit the library web page located at This blog is updated frequently during the year with information about the LS Library weekly classes as well as special events.
