The sound is made by shoes that have a metal "tap" on the heel and toe. Jazz is a highly expressive and unique genre of music. It is a quintessentially American form of music that relies heavily on improvisation, polyrhythms and syncopation. This class borrows techniques from modern dance and concentrates on personal and artistic expression.  For the Jazz portion you can wear socks, but to get the most out of the Tap, consider bringing your own tap shoes.  Shoes can be purchased at the Fredericksburg Ballet Centre.
